Base Family Housing
Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland

Currently, there is an initiative to replace the military’s inventory of aging housing throughout the country with safe, comfortable homes for military families. At Andrew’s Air Force Base, the effort is to rehabilitate existing units and create new housing units for military families.

Bowman Consulting has become an active partner in this effort, providing engineering and surveying services. Project work began with the preparation of demolition plans for areas proposed for redevelopment with residential units, and for areas slated for future commercial and office uses. Preliminary engineering design plans were prepared which included layout of housing units, and layout and grading of roadways, utility design, and stormwater management with a focus on water quality in redeveloped areas.

Scope of survey work included required topographic surveys, physical improvement surveys, and ALTA/ACSM land title surveys in each of the residential sections. A detailed tree survey was also produced that identified and located all trees on the site with a diameter of larger than six inches. Once completed, Bowman Consulting’s team of environmental scientists prepared a tree inventory plan that identified the location, species name, and size of each surveyed tree. Our arborist also rated the health of each tree, and made recommendations for preserving and protecting them during the construction process.
