Orientation Sessions
Bowman Consulting's Orientation Sessions provide employees with information about the company history – through the eyes of Gary Bowman, its President, and provide employees with insight into the organizational structure and the functions that support its operations - Accounting, Finance, Human Resources and Marketing.

Employee Development Center
Bowman Consulting offers a variety of technical, professional, and management training programs through its Employee Development Center. These programs are presented on a monthly basis by external vendors and current employees. They range from professional - Interview Workshops, Bowman's Business Model, Marketing 101, or Proposal Writing - to more targeted subjects such as CADD training, Microsoft Office products, Adobe Photoshop, basic supervision/management training, and leadership development training for senior level management. The Employee Development Center is constantly reviewing and updating the programs it offers. We encourage our employees to seek opportunities to grow professionally and to realize their full potential.

Bowman Leadership Program
Bowman Consulting offers a one-year leadership program for selected management level employees. This program is a systemized approach to help develop the attitudes, knowledge, and skills needed for leadership in an engineering environment. The program runs each quarter for a group of up to 20 employees. Participants create their own individual development plans based on special assessment tools, and participate in teambuilding activities. They are also given outside reading assignments about the theory and practice of leading a professional organization.

Managing Your Career Program
This is an individualized program for employees at mid-career or with some years of experience, who are unsure of their "next steps" within the organization. (Up is not always the only way). Employees will work one-on-one with HR, through a formal process, to explore values, strengths, and critical skills that will help the employee self manage his/her career, identify opportunities, and grow professionally within the company. In the program sessions, an employee will take a holistic approach to career management in order to understand who they are, what they enjoy and value, and the types of roles for which they are best suited. The focus is not on position or title, but on what responsibilities and values are important and how they apply to current and future career direction. From this process, an individual should be able to more effectively create a 1-3-5 year career development plan and use this plan to identify what training and education may be required, what time management issues will need to be addressed, priorities, etc.

Team Enhancement Program
The Team Enhancement Program is a development option designed for teams within the organization. No matter where you work in the company, no matter what you do, you are part of a team. Using assessment tools like the Myers Briggs Type Indicator or MBTI, teams explore their individual and team roles and responsibilities. Over an eight month period, the team meets four times, participates in activities and discussions, learns to understand and appreciate different styles and approaches to work, and learns how to use this data to enhance team effectiveness. This program is best suited for teams of between four and twelve members.

Team Enhancement - Beyond The Basics
Building on what was learned in the Team Enhancement Program, team members will explore the five essential elements of an effective team:
  • Mission, vision, and goals
  • Team roles
  • Operating processes
  • Interpersonal relationships
  • Inter-team relationships

Through assessments and group discussion, teams will be able to identify where potential blockages exist within their own team and learn how to remove those blockages by improving practices and eliminating behaviors that limit or prohibit performance.

Leadership Coaching Program
The Leadership Coaching Program is tailored for individuals who are in key leadership roles within the organization. These leaders are ready to take the next step in their personal development. We provide one-on-one leadership coaching to enhance the individual's self awareness and self understanding. The benefits associated with leadership coaching transcend the individual by positively impacting business performance results.

Survey Apprenticeship Program
The Survey Apprenticeship Program is a 5-year program consisting of a combination of classroom instruction and on-the-job training (OJT). Classroom instruction is designed to complement OJT provided by employers participating in the Virginia State Registered Apprenticeship Program. Apprentices successfully completing the training program receive a State Apprenticeship Certificate.

Tuition Reimbursement
As part of its benefit package, Bowman Consulting offers tuition reimbursement to full time regular employees for coursework and related fees.

Professional Registration and License Fees
Bowman Consulting encourages employees to pursue professional registration. The firm will support registration or licensing during an individual's employment if it has a direct impact on the employee's ability to perform his or her job.

Bowman Consulting supports employee participation in professional organizations, societies, and community groups. Employees are encouraged to play an active role in professional organizations, attend meetings, and network with other area professionals. Some of our memberships include:
